Geocaching with the Megaden
- A great day for Hiking
Den 1 and some members of den 5 went for a Geocache hunt on the B and A trail. Undeterred by weather, they pressed on through the snow for a great find near Hatton Register Green. After signing the log and returning the geocache the boys conducted a park clean up and enjoyed hot apple cider.

SS John Brown WWII Liberty Ship
The Webelos enjoyed a night aboard the SS John Brown Liberty ship last weekend with friends from Pack 858. The scouts learned all about the role of the Liberty ships during the war, how they worked, how to tie knots, and what life was like aboard the vessel. they even got to sleep in authentic sailor “racks.” As always, a classic 918 menu was served from the kitchen and a good time was had by all.

Pack 918 Day at Navy Football
Since the ‘official’ Navy Scout Day is in conflict with Halloween, we will be having our own Navy Game. Saturday, November 14th Navy plays the University of Delaware at 3:30 at Navy-Marine Corps Stadium. See the events page to RSVP. Costs TBA.
Conservation
What a beautiful day to work outside! The scouts were a big help to the Carrollton Manor Community today helping with their erosion/beautification project at their waterfront. About a dozen scouts from pack 918 were helping along with some adults leaders and community members. A “Native Maryland Bay Friendly” garden was planted by the scouts to help with runoff and erosion as well as beautifying one of the community’s waterfront areas. Thanks to the Taylors of den 9 for organizing this event. Look for an upcoming story in the Voice featuring pictures of the scouts in action.

Summer Picnic
All,
Thanks to everyone for a very successful summer picnic. Nearly 60 people turned out to enjoy a beautiful day of fun, food, games and ceremonies to kick off the Pack 918 summer. Many thanks to those who helped coordinate all the efforts around shopping, cooking, reserving the park, organizing food and games, sizing T-shirts, etc. Special thanks also go out to Len Morgan and the Boy Scouts of Troop 918 who provided us a very well done flag retirement ceremony. The only challenge of the day came when all the boys put on their new class B T-shirts and we couldn’t tell one from another if they were more than a few feet away. All in all, a great day. Thanks again.
Thanks – Spring Fair Rain Gutter Regatta
All,
Thanks to all those that came together to plan, setup, staff and tear down the Booth during the Spring Fair. That was an excellent example of team work and charity. I especially enjoyed watching the kids really get into the race, not once but repeatedly because they had so much fun racing. In addition, the scouts looked like they really had a lot of fun too. I think we achieved our goal of earning funds for the PTO and advertising to increase our membership. Our location was awesome. Thanks to She Who Reserves the Spots!! Admittedly, that was my first time at the rain gutter regatta and I really enjoyed it.
Again, thanks so much for all the helping hands!
Kind regards,
Tony
Tracking Your Den Advancements
If you have not already found these online, here is a link to tracking spreadsheets for your den. It covers sheets from Tigers through Web II as well as patches and belt loops. Hope it helps.
Spring Camping Wrap Up

What a campout! While there are not official pack records, no one could remember a campout with more people. Our count was somewhere between 55 and 60 people-what a blast! It was great to see the kids having fun outside in the great weather all weekend hiking, fishing, shooting archery and just running around getting filthy.
April Pack Meeting
Bears and Wolves achieved their badges at the April 2009 pack meeting. Some boys received belt loops and whittling patches too.
There are pictures around the site somewhere
) I tried.
Blue and Gold summary
Thanks to everyone who attended the Blue & Gold Banquet this year. It seemed as though all had a great time and the entire event came in under budget. I wonder if the magician is having trouble keeping his head the normal size?
For those of you who helped with setup, serving and cleanup (and behind-the-scenes support), thank you so very much for the help. It’s true that many hands do make light work.
Thanks to all,
Ginger
