Hey Folks -
Below you will find the November program flyer for Patuxent Research Refuge.
You all know the drill - please remember to register for programs via the
registration line. It has been gorgeous out lately and we hope to see you out
and about on the trails!!

Please do not forget that we have three Special Events - the main event
being Wildlife Festival! - coming up this month, October! See information
directly below regarding these special events followed by November
programs. For more information regarding any of these special events or

The Big Sit! Sunday, October 12th from 8:00am - 2:00pm at the National
Wildlife Visitor Center
This event is hosted by Bird Watcher's Digest, is Free and open to the
public.. A 17 foot diameter circle is set-up with chairs and binoculars
where participants sit and identify as many birds as possible during the
scheduled time-frame. All Ages, NO REGISTRATION is needed for this event.

Wildlife Festival! Saturday, October 18th from 10:00am - 3:00pm at the
National Wildlife Visitor Center
Enjoy Behind-the-Scenes tours , research displays, live animals,
conservation tram tours, kid's activities and more!! This event is FREE
(except for small fee for tram tours). All Ages, NO REGISTRATION is
needed for this event.

Creepy Critters! Thursday, October 30th from 4:00pm - 7:00pm at the
National Wildlife Visitor Center
Come out to unmask the creatures of Patuxent and the role they play in our
ecosystem. Explore their habitats on an evening tram ride, enjoy
exhibits, live animals, kid's crafts and a puppet show. All Ages, NO
REGISTRATION is needed for this event.

NOVEMBER PROGRAMS
REGISTRATION
All programs are FREE, however, donations to The Friends of Patuxent are
greatly appreciated! Programs DO require advance reservations.
Reservations are taken by calling 301-497-5887. Please advise us of any

Programs held at the North Tract
The North Tract is located on Rt. 198 between the Baltimore-Washington
Parkway and Rt. 32.

Basics of Birding
Day-long Series: Saturday., Nov.1st, 10:00am – 2:30pm, Ages 16+
Join us for a discussion and walk focusing on bird identification,
habitats, and equipment. A great introduction to birds found in the area
and ways to identify them! Please bring a bag lunch!

Bird Walk
Sunday, Nov. 9th, 8:15am – 10:15am, All Ages
Learn about birds found throughout Maryland by listening for and observing
them in their natural habitats. Field guides and binoculars recommended.

Owl Prowl
Sunday, Nov. 9th, 4:30pm – 6:00pm, All ages
Discover the nighttime world of the refuge as you look and listen for owls
and other nocturnal animals on this guided walk.

Deadhead Days
Sunday, Nov. 16th, 9:00am - 11:00am, Ages 12+
Learn the role wildflowers play in our ecosystem by learning to identify
seed heads and other strange, but related, “things” on this guided walk.
Field guide, water, and magnifying lens recommended.

The Visitor Center is located on Powder Mill Road between the
Baltimore-Washington Parkway and Rt. 197.

Learn about the birds found in Maryland by listening for and observing

Nature Journaling
Sunday, Nov. 16th, 1:00pm – 2:30pm, Ages 8+
Discover your senses through journaling. Join a refuge naturalist to
learn key points for journaling nature and wildlife observations.

Exploring Nature Hike
Saturday, Nov. 22nd, 2:30pm – 4:00pm, Ages 7-10
Discover and explore the outdoors in this hands- on, guided hike.

Colors of Nature
Sunday, Nov. 23rd, 1:00pm – 2:30pm, Ages 5-7
Discover the beautiful colors of nature and what these changes may mean to
refuge inhabitants on this interactive hike.
